6 Days in Seoul, 5 in Gyeonggi, 4 in Yeongnam
A Gyeonggi Showdown Between Former Governors
Kim Moonsoo, the People Power Party presidential candidate, plans to campaign in not only regions where he is leading but also in regions where he is trailing or where the race is close during the remaining official campaign period. He also intends to focus on targeting the Seoul metropolitan area, which has the largest pool of voters, until just before the voting day for the 21st presidential election on June 3.
According to the People Power Party on the 27th, Kim has spent 6 days in Seoul, 5 days in Gyeonggi Province, and 4 days in Yeongnam during the 15-day official campaign period up to this day. Kim has campaigned by thoroughly visiting various areas of Seoul, starting with traditionally conservative strongholds such as Songpa and Seocho, and also including Jung-gu, Jongno, Gangseo, Yeongdeungpo, Guro, Gangdong, and Dobong.

In order to overcome internal discord that arose during the process of selecting the party's candidate and to promote unity, Kim began his campaign activities on the first day of the official campaign period in TK (Daegu and North Gyeongsang) and BUK (Busan, Ulsan, and South Gyeongsang). He visited places such as Seomun Market in Daegu, Sinjeong Market in Nam-gu, Ulsan, and Jagalchi Market in Busan, promoting his catchphrase of being a 'pro-ordinary people, market president.' After meeting with former President Park Geunhye on May 24, Kim has continued to emphasize conservative unity by visiting the birthplace of former President Park Chunghee in Gumi, North Gyeongsang, and the birthplace of former First Lady Yuk Youngsoo in Okcheon, North Chungcheong, on May 25.
Kim's intensified campaigning in Gyeonggi Province, a region where the conservative bloc is relatively weak, is interpreted as an attempt to frame this presidential election as a contest between former governors of Gyeonggi. After holding rallies in Pangyo, Suwon, and Dongtan in Seongnam on May 16, Kim continued to emphasize his distinctiveness by campaigning in Goyang, Gimpo, Paju, Dongducheon, Yangju, and Namyangju on May 21, Hanam on May 22, Gwangmyeong and Bucheon on May 23, and Anseong, Pyeongtaek, Osan, and Yongin on May 26. During his campaign in Gyeonggi, Kim highlighted achievements from his tenure as the 32nd and 33rd governor, such as the development of Pangyo Techno Valley and Dongtan New Town, attracting Samsung Electronics' Pyeongtaek Campus, and the introduction of the Great Train Express (GTX).
In the Chungcheong region, which serves as a casting vote area, Kim mainly visited major cities such as Daejeon, Cheonan, and Cheongju, which act as hubs connecting the Seoul metropolitan area to Yeongnam. On May 25, he held intensive rallies in Gyeryong, Nonsan, Gongju, Boryeong, Hongseong, Seosan, Dangjin, and Asan in South Chungcheong. In Honam, his only campaign stops were in Gwangju and Jeonju on May 17. He has not yet visited Gangwon or Jeju. A member of the People Power Party’s election committee stated, "Before early voting (on the 29th and 30th), the plan is to secure as much support as possible by visiting both strongholds and weak or closely contested areas, and then to return to the Seoul metropolitan area."
Meanwhile, Kim is also seeking to secure support through region-specific pledges. He has announced a national development pledge focused on discovering local attractions and developing tourism products utilizing K-content. He has specifically pledged to develop local attractions that could become 'global hot places' in order to attract both domestic and international tourists.
