2,841 Personnel Deployed... Establishing a Fire Prevention Response System
The Gwangju Fire Safety Headquarters will implement special emergency duty from May 28 to 30 and June 2 to 4, including the early voting days (May 29?30) and the main election day (June 3), to prevent fires at polling and ballot counting stations and to establish a rapid initial response system ahead of the 21st presidential election.
This special emergency duty will mobilize 2,841 personnel, including firefighters and volunteer firefighters from the Gwangju Fire Safety Headquarters, as well as 273 firefighting vehicles, maintaining a 24-hour response posture.
By May 23, Gwangju Fire Safety Headquarters completed fire safety inspections at 458 polling and ballot counting sites, including 96 early voting stations, 357 polling stations, and 5 ballot counting stations. Any deficiencies identified will be corrected before the early voting days.
Additionally, fire trucks will be pre-deployed at ballot counting stations, and firefighters will be stationed at polling stations to ensure a swift response in the event of a fire. Fire prevention patrols will also be conducted during key hours to ensure thorough on-site management.
On May 27, Choi Jeongsik, head of the 119 Response Division at the Gwangju Fire Safety Headquarters, stated, "We will do our utmost in advance preparation so that the 21st presidential election can be held safely for all citizens," and added, "We will create a safe election environment without fires or other disasters through close cooperation with related agencies."
