Starting from May 29 until June 16, Daegu City, in cooperation with the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Rent-a-Car Business Cooperative, will conduct a comprehensive inspection and guidance of the business operations of all 57 rent-a-car companies registered in the Daegu area. The number of car rental companies registered with Daegu City is 57, with a total of 6,285 vehicles.

This joint inspection is being carried out to proactively prevent customer inconvenience by eradicating illegal practices such as operating vehicles that have exceeded their permitted age. This comes as domestic travel is expected to become more active due to the designation of substitute holidays, and as the number of visitors to the region is also expected to increase.

The main focus of this inspection includes whether rent-a-car companies comply with registration requirements, whether driver qualifications are properly verified, whether any vehicles have exceeded their permitted age, and whether rental contracts are properly prepared and rental terms and conditions are being followed?covering the overall aspects of the rental business.

In particular, the inspection will focus on checking the operational status of the 'Driver Qualification Verification System' used by rental companies, in order to prevent traffic accidents caused by renting vehicles to unqualified drivers. The inspection aims to protect consumer rights by intensively checking for various business violations.

Daegu City plans to address minor violations on the spot during this joint inspection. However, for major violations such as operating vehicles that have exceeded their permitted age, failing to replace vehicles within six months after vehicle deregistration, and violations of business plan details, the city will strictly impose administrative penalties in accordance with relevant laws, including business suspension (from 90 days to 3 days) or fines (from 1.8 million won to 100,000 won).

Meanwhile, in the previous year, Daegu City imposed fines for five cases of failure to replace vehicles within six months after vehicle deregistration, and three cases of violations of business plan details, and has been strengthening administrative penalties every year.

Heo Junseok, Director of the Transportation Bureau of Daegu City, stated, "Through this inspection and guidance, we will do our utmost not only to raise legal compliance awareness among local rent-a-car companies, but also to create an opportunity to improve company reliability and service quality for users."
