This agreement marks the final stage of Gangnam-gu's "Welfare Hub Convenience Store Project." With this, a total of 231 stores from four convenience store brands?including CU, GS25, Emart24, and now 7-Eleven?will participate as part of the district's welfare safety net.
Convenience stores serve as community hubs located closest to residents' daily lives, making them well-positioned to detect welfare blind spots early. Accordingly, the district plans to strengthen its system for swiftly identifying and connecting households in crisis to tailored support by placing welfare information materials in stores, enabling store owners to report households in crisis, and appointing store owners as honorary social welfare officials.
With this new agreement, 51 7-Eleven stores in Gangnam-gu will join the initiative, and their owners will be appointed as "honorary social welfare officials" to participate in community welfare activities. Residents who promptly discover and report households in crisis will also receive a small reward.
Gangnam-gu Mayor Cho Sungmyung stated, "The interest and participation of residents are more important than anything else in identifying and supporting those in welfare blind spots," and added, "Through this agreement with convenience stores, we will ensure a closely connected, inclusive welfare safety net throughout Gangnam."
