National Palace Museum Storage Opens to National Intangible Cultural Heritage Masters

Operation of "In-depth Investigation of Royal Heritage in Storage"

The National Palace Museum of Korea announced on the 27th that it will operate the "In-depth Investigation of Royal Heritage in Storage" every Wednesday from the 28th of this month to the 11th of next month. At the open storage facility located in Jongno-gu, Seoul, the museum will offer national intangible cultural heritage craft masters the opportunity to directly examine royal heritage items. In the first half of the year, clothing items will be revealed, while in the second half, accessories will be showcased.

For the first half of the investigation, ten masters in the fields of gold leaf, quilting, embroidery, and needlework will participate. Together with museum experts, they will closely examine royal garments such as the Gonryongpo and the gold-leafed Dangui (an outer robe worn as formal attire by women of the royal court and noble families). Pattern plates used for embroidery and gold leaf application will also be investigated. A museum official stated, "We expect this to have a positive impact on both skill enhancement and creative activities."
