The Seafood Festival has been organized to commemorate the 30th annual "Day of the Sea" (May 31), aiming not only to highlight the taste and quality of seasonal seafood but also to remind customers of the abundance provided by the sea and to raise public awareness of marine resources.

To start, customers can enjoy seafood that is perfect for restoring energy in early summer. Notable items include cuttlefish and croaker, which are plump before spawning season; female blue crabs filled with roe; and spring gulbi (dried yellow corvina) known for its rich umami flavor.

Cuttlefish from Yeosu and Taean are known for their chewy texture and subtle sweetness, while croaker from Mokpo and Muan is rich in savory fat and collagen. Prices are set at 22,800 won per cuttlefish and 32,000 won per kilogram of croaker.

Spring gulbi from Yeonggwang and Shinan in South Jeolla Province are mild and free of any fishy odor, making them ideal for grilling or steaming. Live blue crabs from Gunsan and Taean are perfect for soup dishes thanks to their deep umami flavor. For the event, all spring gulbi products will be offered at a 40% discount, and live blue crab (100g) will be sold for 6,800 won.

In addition, major branches such as the Main Branch, Times Square Branch, South City Branch, Uijeongbu Branch, Centum City Branch, and Gwangju Branch will host snack pop-ups with a "Beach Festival" concept. Special dishes including sliced raw cuttlefish, steamed live king crab, abalone butter rice, and squid sundae will be available to delight customers. Each store will also feature a "Live Sashimi Filleting Show" at the sashimi and sushi sections, where seasonal fish such as croaker and butterfish will be prepared on the spot, offering both freshness and a lively atmosphere.

The mobile app will offer a "Special Abalone Discount Coupon" as well. By downloading the coupon when it becomes available at 8 p.m. on June 5, customers can purchase a set of six abalones for 11,900 won. The coupon is valid until June 15, but quantities are limited and may sell out early.

Meanwhile, Shinsegae Department Store will strengthen its hygiene management system from this month until the end of September, in response to the surge in seafood demand during the summer. The company will focus inspections on high-risk seafood such as live fish, shellfish, and sashimi, and will introduce a real-time tracking system to monitor water and sales temperatures, aiming to prevent hygiene risks in advance.

Choi Wonjun, Executive Director of Food at Shinsegae Department Store, stated, "We organized this Seafood Festival to share the value and abundance of our seas with our customers," adding, "We will satisfy all five senses with differentiated seafood offerings that deliver not only taste and health but also fun."
