Dong-Eui University and Korea Cerebral Palsy Welfare Association Host 3rd Busan Metropolitan Boccia Tournament

Students and Staff Participate in Volunteer Activities
and Harmony Division Matches

Dong-Eui University (President Han Suhwan) hosted the "3rd Busan Metropolitan Boccia Tournament with Dong-Eui University and the Korea Cerebral Palsy Welfare Association" at Hyomin Gymnasium on May 24.

This tournament, aimed at raising awareness about disabilities and promoting harmony through sports, was organized by the University Innovation Support Project Group at Dong-Eui University (Director Cho Jaegyun), the Regional Collaboration Center (Director Kim Chanyong), and the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam Branch of the Korea Cerebral Palsy Welfare Association (President Kim Youngjong), and was hosted by the Busan Brain Lesion Welfare Center (Director Lee Jueun).


Boccia is a sport similar to curling, where players throw or roll balls to get as close as possible to a target ball, and the scores are totaled to determine the winner. It is a special sport designed for people with cerebral palsy.


This tournament featured more than 50 athletes, who were divided into Club, Hometong, General, and Harmony divisions according to their experience, equipment, and team composition. The matches were conducted in a tournament format.


The results were as follows: Club Division (Doubles) - Kim Seun and Kim Yongjun of Power Wheel Club; Hometong Division (Singles) - Heo Jonghak of Harmony Club; General Division (Doubles) - Park Byunghyun and Lee Imgyun of the Busan Brain Lesion Welfare Center; Harmony Division (Doubles) - Baek Kyungmin of the Busan Brain Lesion Welfare Center and Park Nahee of Dong-Eui University each took first place in their respective categories.


In addition, Dong-Eui University students and staff participated as volunteers, assisting with scorekeeping, the information desk, meal service, photography, and also competed as athletes in the Harmony Division.

Park Seungwoo, a fourth-year student in the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering who participated as both a volunteer and an athlete, shared, "Although it was a short time, it was a happy experience to help others while working alongside people with disabilities. I will continue to seek out and participate in activities where I can be of help."


Lee Imgun, Vice President for External Affairs at Dong-Eui University, stated, "This tournament was a valuable opportunity for all participants to realize the importance of cooperation and sharing. Dong-Eui University will continue to take the lead in fulfilling the university's role and fostering collaboration with the local community."
