"Unconstitutional and Far-Right Appointments Over the Past Three Years... The Core of the Prosecutors' Republic"
"Allegations of External Pressure and Solicitation by Yoon Geonhee... The Need for a Thorough Investigation into Illegal Acts"
Jiwon Park, Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker (representing Haenam, Wando, and Jindo in South Jeolla Province), called for a thorough investigation regarding the personnel actions taken against all prosecutors belonging to the Ministry of Justice’s Personnel Information Management Division, stating, "It should not end with dissolution."
On May 26, Park wrote on his Facebook page, "We must thoroughly uncover how the vetting process was conducted over the past three years, and whether there were any illegal acts such as external pressure or solicitations from Yoon Geonhee (referring to President Yoon Suk Yeol and First Lady Kim Keon Hee) during that process."
He pointed out, "Countless unconstitutional and far-right appointments have been made over the past three years, including the heads of the National Office of Investigation, the Korea Communications Commission, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, the Ministry of Employment and Labor, and the Ministry of Unification. At the center of all these appointments is the Ministry of Justice’s Personnel Information Management Division."
He continued, "Former Defense Minister Lee Jongseop received agr?ment as ambassador to Australia just one day after the prosecution’s search and seizure related to the Chae Sangbyeong case, and Lee Wankyu, head of the Korea Legislation Research Institute, was nominated as a Constitutional Court justice less than 24 hours after his vetting. President Yoon Suk Yeol’s personnel appointments have been a series of divisions and internal strife," he strongly criticized.
Park emphasized, "Whenever the National Assembly raised issues in the past, the Ministry of Justice consistently feigned ignorance. However, now the so-called 'prosecutors’ republic' is collapsing. The next administration must thoroughly investigate every abuse of power by the Personnel Information Management Division."
He particularly highlighted the role of the Democratic Party leader by stating, "Settling internal strife?now it is Lee Jaemyung’s turn."
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Justice reassigned Choi Subong, Personnel Information Officer 1 of the Personnel Information Management Division, as Chief Prosecutor of the Criminal Division 2 at the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors’ Office, and transferred prosecutors Choi Sueun and Kim Taegyeom to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office and the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors’ Office, respectively. This action, which replaced all prosecutors in the division, is effectively being interpreted as a dissolution of the organization.
