Gwangjin-gu Bodybuilding Team Dominates 'Mr. Seoul'

The bodybuilding team affiliated with Gwangjin-gu (headed by District Mayor Kim Kyungho) achieved a remarkable feat at the 44th Mr. Seoul Selection Contest, held on May 17, 2025, at the Donghae Culture and Arts Center of Kwangwoon University, by winning three gold medals and the grand prize.

The Mr. Seoul Selection Contest is a prestigious event with a long history, featuring bodybuilding athletes who represent Seoul. It also serves as a qualifying event for Mr. Korea and for selecting Seoul's representatives for the National Sports Festival.

At this year's event, Baek Jaeuk and Kwon Oyun from the Gwangjin-gu bodybuilding team participated and delivered outstanding results.

Baek Jaeuk, who competed in the light middleweight (-80kg) category, not only won the gold medal in his division but also received the grand prize as the overall winner across all categories, earning the highest honor. Kwon Oyun demonstrated overwhelming skill by winning gold medals in both the classic 168cm category and the lightweight (-70kg) division.

The Gwangjin-gu bodybuilding team, founded in 1996, consists of coach Lee Gangseon and six athletes, and has consistently achieved excellent results in various competitions.

In particular, last year the team achieved its best performance since its founding by winning six gold medals at major domestic and international competitions, including the IFBB Asian Championships and Mr. Korea.

Kim Kyungho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, stated, "This award is a precious result born from the sweat and passion of our athletes. I deeply appreciate the dedication and effort of the team that has brought honor to Gwangjin-gu," adding, "The Gwangjin-gu bodybuilding team is also a symbolic presence that brings healthy vitality to the local community. I hope the team will continue to serve as an exemplary squad representing the district in the future."

On May 27, the team will operate a "Youth Mental Health Rehabilitation Class" for local middle and high school students experiencing psychological difficulties due to academic stress. In addition, they plan to continue various social contribution activities, such as a "Senior Strengthening Exercise Class" and talent donation programs for public institutions.
