Yangju City Launches Public Solicitation for Alternative Sites
Funeral Facility Aiming to Open by 2030
City Seeks Solutions Through New Site Recruitment

Yangju City in Gyeonggi Province announced on May 26 that it will publicly solicit alternative sites for a 'comprehensive funeral facility' until July 11.

Villages wishing to apply must obtain the consent of at least 60% of all residents through a village meeting. The site requirements specify an area of approximately 500,000 square meters and must meet the conditions to accommodate a comprehensive funeral facility, including 12 crematoriums, a funeral hall, and a columbarium.

The village ultimately selected as the site will be granted the right to operate convenience facilities within the complex, along with fund projects worth up to 10 billion KRW.

In addition, the town, township, or neighborhood to which the selected village belongs, as well as areas within a 2-kilometer radius of the facility, will each receive fund projects worth up to 15 billion KRW.

Yangju City will review the eligibility of the applicant villages and, by comparing them to the original site, Bangseong 1-ri, will select the most suitable location as the final site.

Furthermore, if there are requests for explanations to gather residents' opinions or hold village meetings during the application process, the city will actively cooperate regardless of the location.

Meanwhile, Yangju City previously conducted a public solicitation process from August to October 2023 and selected Bangseong 1-ri as the project site in December of the same year.
