"Crossing the Boundaries of Sensation Through SF"
Over 300 Participants Join Both Onsite and Online
Busan National University Library (Director Woo Kyun) announced on the 26th that it held the second lecture of the '2025 Author Meet-and-Greet' series on May 21. The event took place at Saebyeokmaru on the first floor of the Saebyeokbeol Library, featuring Choyup Kim, one of Korea's leading SF authors.
This year's lecture, now in its second edition, was held under the theme 'SF: How to Sense Other Worlds.' The event drew participation from more than 300 people, including both in-person attendees and online livestream viewers.
Choyup Kim made her debut in 2017 by winning the Grand Prize in the short and mid-length fiction category at the Korea Science Literature Awards for her work 'Lost Inside the Library.' She has since established herself as a prominent young writer in the Korean SF literary scene with numerous works, including 'If We Cannot Move at the Speed of Light' and 'The Greenhouse at the End of the Earth.' Her writing is known for its delicate emotional tone and harmonious blend of scientific imagination, earning her a wide readership.
During the lecture, Kim emphasized, "SF is a genre that allows us to experience sensory worlds different from those of humans," and added, "It is a literary tool that enables us to develop the ability to understand others by imagining beings that are fundamentally different."
This year, Busan National University Library is organizing a total of seven author meet-and-greet events across various fields. The series began in March with a lecture by author Tak-hwan Kim, and upcoming lectures are scheduled as follows: June 25 with Oriental Medicine Doctor Woonggeun Hwang, August 13 with Professor Jaechun Choi (Ewha Womans University), September 16 with Professor Beomjun Kim (Sungkyunkwan University), September 30 with Professor Changshik Ha (Busan National University), and November 21 with author Serang Jeong.
Pre-registration for each lecture is available through the Busan National University Library website starting two weeks prior to the event.
Woo Kyun, Director of Busan National University Library, stated, "We are creating opportunities for communication between university members and local residents through an open space where knowledge and imagination intersect," and added, "We plan to further expand our programs so that more people can experience knowledge and culture from a variety of fields."
