Shinhan Asset Management announced on the 26th that its "SOL US Nuclear SMR" ETF, which is the only ETF investing across the entire US nuclear industry value chain, is seeing rapid inflows of capital. Since its listing, net purchases by individual investors have reached 7.5 billion KRW, with 3.5 billion KRW flowing in on just the 23rd alone.
US President Donald Trump has signed a "Nuclear Industry Revitalization Executive Order," which focuses on streamlining the approval process for new reactors and rebuilding the US uranium production and enrichment industry. Immediately after taking office in January of this year, President Trump declared a "National Energy Emergency," citing that the US power supply could not keep up with the increasing demand from artificial intelligence (AI) systems and data centers. As a follow-up measure, the executive order has chosen the strengthening of the nuclear industry as a core strategy to address the surge in electricity demand.
Kim Junghyun, Head of ETF Business at Shinhan Asset Management, explained, "The executive order strongly suggests that the US has identified the enhancement of nuclear technology and infrastructure as a national strategic priority to respond to the rapidly increasing electricity demand driven by data centers and the spread of AI."
He added, "The timely launch of an ETF that anticipated the expansion of the US nuclear power industry, including SMRs, in the AI era has proven effective."
Kim emphasized, "Nuclear power produces almost no carbon emissions, aligning with the Democratic Party's eco-friendly policies, and as a reliable power source, it also meets the Republican Party's energy policy goals. This enables strategic development through bipartisan support." He continued, "US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright also regards AI and the revitalization of the nuclear industry as core technologies, even comparing them to a second Manhattan Project. Therefore, it is necessary to continue paying close attention to the growth of the US nuclear industry."
The SOL US Nuclear SMR ETF focuses its investments on 18 major stocks spanning the entire US nuclear industry value chain.
