Incheon City will support 1,180 jobs this year for unemployed people with disabilities aged 18 and over, aiming to promote their economic independence and participation in society.
On May 26, the city announced that it is implementing seven types of job programs for people with disabilities?including welfare jobs, general positions, and customized roles?by investing a total budget of 20 billion KRW, which includes both national and local government funds, in accordance with the Welfare of Persons with Disabilities Act.
The welfare job program involves 378 people working short hours in roles such as environmental maintenance and monitoring of parking spaces designated for people with disabilities. The general positions, which are divided into full-time (8 hours) and part-time (4 hours), offer 518 people opportunities to work as administrative assistants at administrative welfare centers and similar locations.
Through the customized job program for visually impaired massage therapists, 94 visually impaired individuals provide on-site massage services at senior centers and welfare facilities for the elderly. Additionally, 102 people with developmental disabilities assist care workers at elderly care facilities. The Incheon-style customized welfare job program for people with severe disabilities will assign 70 people to advocacy and awareness activities for people with disabilities, while 18 people will be offered peer counseling jobs for those with severe disabilities.
This year, the number of jobs for people with disabilities increased by 39 compared to the previous year, marking a 3.4% rise, and the budget was raised by 800 million KRW from 19.2 billion KRW. An official from Incheon City stated, "We will strive to provide customized jobs that reflect the characteristics and individual needs of each type of disability, so as to help restore self-esteem among people with disabilities and promote integration within the local community."
Meanwhile, on May 27, the city will hold a job fair for people with disabilities at City Hall, offering employment opportunities not only in the public sector but also in private companies. Twenty-six recruiting companies will participate, and approximately 100 people are expected to be hired on-site through interviews.
At the event, there will be booths for resume photo shoots and interview image consulting. The Korea Employment Agency for Persons with Disabilities will provide resume consulting and vocational training counseling services. After the job fair, the city also plans to support follow-up services such as employment counseling and vocational training linkage for unemployed people with disabilities.
