Over 3,000 Patents Secured
in Core Future Vehicle Technologies

Hyundai Mobis is accelerating the development of core technologies by increasing the number of new patents obtained in future vehicle fields such as electrification and autonomous driving.

According to Hyundai Mobis on May 26, the company has acquired more than 7,500 patents over the past three years. Of these, patents related to core future vehicle technologies?including electrification, autonomous driving, and connectivity?accounted for about 3,000, representing 40% of the total patents.

Last year alone, Hyundai Mobis filed approximately 2,300 new patents, with over 1,000 patents obtained specifically in future technology fields. Notable examples include smart key technology for vehicles to prevent digital key hacking and technology for implementing high-definition head-up displays (HUD).

In the rapidly changing future vehicle industry, patents have become a core asset that determines market leadership, going beyond merely serving as a means of protecting technology. Hyundai Mobis is pursuing a research and development (R&D) strategy based on intellectual property, which extends beyond simple technology development to include the securing of rights and commercialization of patent ideas.

As part of this strategy, Hyundai Mobis operates a systematic patent invention system. Centered around a dedicated patent organization, the company has established a collaborative framework among inventors, patent attorneys, and patent experts to provide close support for strategic patent applications. Overseas research centers in North America, Europe, and India are focusing on securing globally optimized patents for each regional market through local patent agents.

On May 22, the company also held an 'In-house Invention Day' event at the Mabuk Research Center in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. During this event, awards were presented to researchers and organizations that achieved outstanding invention results over the past year. 'Invention Day' is Hyundai Mobis's signature R&D festival, designed to share research achievements and encourage innovation.

This year, Hyundai Mobis plans to further accelerate the acquisition of core technologies by expanding its R&D investment to the 2 trillion won range. The company currently employs approximately 7,500 R&D personnel worldwide, an increase of more than 30% over the past five years. A Hyundai Mobis representative stated, "We will continue to focus on strengthening our global patent competitiveness to secure fundamental technologies for future mobility."
