A 230-Meter-Long, 1.2-Meter-Wide Greenbelt to Be Created
Connecting Surrounding Forests and Green Axes
Gwangmyeong City in Gyeonggi Province announced on May 26, 2025, that it will create a "greenbelt" along the roadsides in the Iljik-dong area, allowing citizens to walk and experience nature. A "greenbelt" refers to a narrow and elongated green space established along roads or rivers.

The new greenbelt will be created along certain sections of Iljik-ro and Ori-ro in the Iljik-dong area, stretching 230 meters in length and 1.2 meters in width. The city plans to complete the project next month with a budget of 110 million won.
In the section of Iljik-ro (from Deokan Samgeori to Lotte Mall Gwangmyeong Branch), the city will plant a mix of flowering plants and perennial species between the street trees. In the Ori-ro area, 63 old street tree guards will be replaced, and liriope will be planted beneath the trees to improve the road landscape and pedestrian environment.
The city explained that the greenbelt will also serve to connect the previously disconnected green axis between Seodoksan and Seongchaesan, which are located on either side of the project site.
Previously, the city has continued to expand urban greening projects by utilizing public land and unused spaces, such as creating greenbelts in four locations: the area around City Hall-ro, the green space in front of the Citizens' Hall, Cheolsan-ro, and Anhyeon-ro.
Park Seungwon, Mayor of Gwangmyeong, said, "We will expand green spaces throughout the city to provide a pleasant living environment and actively respond to the climate crisis."
