Hints at Special Pardon for Cho Kuk with "Meet Cho Kuk Again, Sooner with Number 1" Poster

Jung Kyungshim, former Dongyang University professor and spouse of former leader of the Rebuilding Korea Party Cho Kuk, posted a profile photo on social media that evokes the idea of a special pardon for her husband.

On May 23, Professor Jung changed her Facebook profile photo to a poster encouraging participation in early voting for the June 3 presidential election.

The publicly shared poster features the phrase "Meet Cho Kuk Again, Sooner with Number 1" along with an image of Cho Kuk seen from behind.

In this phrase, "Number 1" is interpreted as a call to support Lee Jaemyung, the Democratic Party's presidential candidate, who is running as candidate number one in this election. It is also understood to imply that voting for Lee Jaemyung would allow people to "meet Cho Kuk again sooner" through a special pardon or reinstatement.

The Rebuilding Korea Party has also recently campaigned in support of Lee Jaemyung, emphasizing, "To meet Cho Kuk as soon as possible, Lee Jaemyung must win by a large margin." On May 20, Shin Jangshik, a Rebuilding Korea Party lawmaker, stated during a campaign event in Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province, "The fastest way to meet Cho Kuk, who is currently incarcerated, is to make Lee Jaemyung president," adding, "The Rebuilding Korea Party will stand at the forefront and remain with you until the end to usher in the 'Lee Jaemyung presidency.'"

In this presidential election, the Rebuilding Korea Party decided not to field its own candidate and, after declaring support for Lee Jaemyung, joined the Democratic Party's central election campaign committee. As a result, candidate number three was left vacant, since the Rebuilding Korea Party, which is the third-largest party in the National Assembly, did not nominate a candidate.

Last December, Cho Kuk was sentenced to two years in prison on charges including academic fraud related to his children's college admissions and interfering with a Blue House inspection, and he is currently serving his sentence. He is scheduled to be released on December 15, 2026.

Meanwhile, Professor Jung's current profile photo has been changed to a poster for the film "Meet Cho Kuk Again," which tells the story of politician Cho Kuk.
