Gyeonggi Province Sends 90 Youths to China for International Exchange Program

To mark the 80th anniversary of Korea's Liberation, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government is launching a "Youth International Exchange Program" aimed at enhancing historical awareness and strengthening the global competencies of young people.

Gyeonggi Province previously recruited participants through an open call in March and April, and finalized the selection of 90 youths after document screening and interviews.

The selected youths include 50 participants for exchanges with China?33 to Guangdong Province and 17 to Jiangsu Province?as well as 40 participants for an anti-Japanese historical site exploration (Harbin and Dalian).

First, the China exchange group will spend five days and four nights participating in local classes, visiting companies and research institutes, and engaging in cultural exchange activities.

In particular, this year, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Liberation, the program includes historical experience activities at sites such as the Whampoa Military Academy and the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea Archives Exhibition Hall. The Guangdong exchange will take place from May 26 to 30, and the Jiangsu exchange from June 10 to 14.

Gyeonggi Provincial Government

The anti-Japanese historical site exploration will be held from August 12 to 15, lasting four days and three nights. The youths, accompanied by historical experts, will visit significant sites in Harbin and Dalian, including the location of Ahn Jung-geun's patriotic act, the Northeast Martyrs Memorial Hall, and the Lushun Prison.

All costs for participation in the program?including airfare, accommodation, and activity fees?will be fully covered by the Gyeonggi Provincial Government.

Kang Hyunseok, Director of the Future Lifelong Education Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "We hope that through this exchange, young people will reflect on the significance of the 80th anniversary of Liberation and establish a correct view of history."

Meanwhile, youths from Aichi Prefecture, Japan will visit Gyeonggi Province in July, and youths from Guangdong and Jiangsu Provinces, China will visit in October.
