A Feast of Roses... Seongdong District to Hold 'Daehyeonsan Rose Garden Rose Festival'

Seongdong District in Seoul (District Mayor: Jung Wonoh) announced that it will hold the 'Daehyeonsan Rose Festival' at Daehyeonsan Rose Garden, one of Seoul's representative healing destinations, on May 31.

The 'Daehyeonsan Rose Festival' began after being selected as a community agenda item at the residents' assembly of Geumho 1(il)-ga-dong (Dong Chief: Moon Eunjeong) in 2021, and this year marks its fourth edition. The event is organized by the Daehyeonsan Rose Garden Rose Festival Promotion Committee (Chairperson: Ji Junhwan).

The festival will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., featuring a variety of programs that allow visitors to enjoy the early summer atmosphere and the fragrance of roses. There will be performances with various musical instruments such as violin, ocarina, and guitar, as well as soprano and fusion Korean traditional music, providing unique experiences that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

There will also be rose-themed experience booths and sales booths, as well as food booths, including activities such as cotton candy, face painting, and keyring making, satisfying all five senses of visitors.

In 2018, the district first established Daehyeonsan Rose Garden (60, Dokseodang-ro 63-gil, Seongdong-gu) by utilizing previously neglected idle space. The roses planted here are four-season roses that bloom and fall until autumn, so visitors can enjoy roses throughout the year except in the middle of winter.

This year, the size of the garden was expanded from 11,300 square meters to 11,700 square meters. An additional 6,828 roses of 19 varieties were planted in idle spaces such as slopes and the tops of stone walls.

As a result, a total of about 55,000 rose bushes now form themed clusters, offering even greater beauty to residents. In addition, cooling fog machines were newly installed to reduce heat waves and fine dust, further enhancing convenience for residents.

Jung Wonoh, Mayor of Seongdong District, said, "The 'Daehyeonsan Rose Garden Festival' is a successful example of a festival developed through residents themselves creating agendas to beautify their community and through public-private cooperation. I hope many people will visit and create beautiful memories, and I will continue to provide support and attention so that community festivals created by all residents can become even more active in the future."
