"US Asks Israel to Postpone Ground Invasion of Gaza Strip"

The Jerusalem Post reported on May 25 (local time) that the United States has requested Israel to postpone a large-scale ground invasion of the Gaza Strip.

Citing multiple sources, the outlet stated that the United States suggested Israel delay a full-scale invasion, proposing that military operations in the Gaza Strip and ceasefire negotiations with the Palestinian militant group Hamas proceed in parallel.

Previously, on May 16, Israel launched the "Chariots of Gideon" operation, a major offensive aimed at reoccupying the Gaza Strip, immediately after U.S. President Donald Trump concluded his Middle East tour. Israeli officials noted that if the Israeli military were to begin a full-scale ground invasion, it would likely not withdraw from the occupied areas of the Gaza Strip regardless of the outcome of future negotiations, further complicating prospects for a ceasefire.

Israel and Hamas discussed the release of 10 hostages and a 60-day ceasefire, proposals made by Steve Witkoff, the U.S. President's Middle East envoy. However, the negotiations have reached a stalemate. The previous day, Israel withdrew its entire delegation from Qatar, the mediator country, but the U.S. side reportedly remains and continues indirect talks with Hamas.

On the same day, the Israeli military issued a statement saying that the 401st Armored Brigade killed several terrorists in northern Gaza the previous day, and that airstrikes by fighter jets also continued.
