"My father-in-law is from Chungju"... Jokes in dialect exchanged
"Who will win may be decided by just three votes"
Encouraging local residents to vote
Lee Jaemyung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, visited Dangjin in South Chungcheong Province for a campaign stop, where he emphasized his pledges to build the Second Seohae Bridge connecting Dangjin and the Seoul metropolitan area, as well as the East-West Trans-Korea Railway in the central region.
On the 25th, in front of the traditional market in Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province, Lee stated, "We need to build the Second Seohae Bridge, and we need to finalize the East-West Trans-Korea Railway as soon as possible." He also pledged to develop Dangjin into a central port for navigation on the West Sea. He said, "When I was governor of Gyeonggi Province, I felt sorry about Dangjin Port," and appealed for support by adding, "If I become president, I will take care of things fairly, so please let go of any disappointment you may have felt when I was governor."
Lee remarked, "A new route called the Arctic Route is being developed," and explained, "In the summer, as the ice melts, it is being used as a shipping route, and since global temperatures are rising, there is a high possibility that it will be open year-round in the future." He continued, "When trying to travel from the Arctic, through Russia, and toward Asia near China, the Korean Peninsula is the key point," adding, "Ports and major port cities located at this midpoint, the shortest route, will see tremendous development."
He also emphasized his connection to South Chungcheong Province to build rapport. Lee said, "My father-in-law is from Chungju, so I have ties to the Chungcheong region," and added, "It feels like visiting my in-laws." He then joked in dialect, "How did you manage to catch a hen?"
Lee stated, "Under authoritarian regimes, Yeongnam and Honam were set against each other, and Chungcheong was caught in the middle, neither here nor there, so people had to be careful with their words to get by," emphasizing, "Now, people are divided into red and blue and trying to destroy each other, but it shouldn't be this way."
He said, "Many claim they are worried I might seek political revenge, but where would I find the time for that?" and added, "Although I have been targeted countless times, I have no intention of engaging in such political retaliation."
He went on to say, "With the June 3 election just days away, it could be decided by a margin of three votes, so I ask each of you to bring in three more votes." He encouraged voter turnout by adding, "If I only asked for two more votes, you might just talk to your spouse and stop there, so I'm asking for three to make sure you also talk to your neighbors."
