Gwangju Transportation Corporation (President Cho Ikmoon) announced on May 25 that it recently held a policy forum under the theme "Railway Network Plan for the Realization of the Poster City Gwangju" at the Kim Daejung Convention Center in Seo-gu, with the participation of officials from transportation-related institutions such as Gwangju Institute and local citizens.
This forum was organized as part of the 2025 Korean Railway Society Spring Conference, aiming to explore strategies for building an efficient urban railway network focused on the organic integration of Gwangju’s transportation system.
At the event, officials from the corporation, Gwangju City, Gwangju Institute, and other related organizations gave open presentations on topics such as the construction of Gwangju’s urban railway network, the future vision for the Gwangju metropolitan railway network, the necessity of undergrounding the Gwangju Line, and the introduction of new transportation systems such as TRT. This was followed by an enthusiastic discussion on the introduction and operation of the Gwangju area railway network.
The participating organizations agreed on the need to propose the Gwangju Industrial Line, construct the Dalbit Railway, and expedite the Sangmu-Gwangcheon Line project to establish a metropolitan railway network. In particular, the corporation signed a memorandum of understanding with Songwon University to cooperate on railway workforce development, academic exchange, and collaboration on railway-related projects to promote the development of the local transportation industry.
President Cho Ikmoon stated, "I hope that the Korean Railway Society academic conference, held in Gwangju for the first time, will serve as a catalyst for revitalizing the local economy and advancing the railway industry," adding, "We will continue to do our best to provide convenient transportation services for citizens."
