Hong Junpyo Backs Lee Junseok: "Not a Wasted Vote, but an Investment in the Future"

Former Daegu Mayor Hong Junpyo stated that "a vote for Lee Junseok is not a wasted vote, but an investment in the future," in response to Lee Junseok, the presidential candidate of the Reform New Party, who drew a clear line against calls for unification with Kim Moonsoo, the People Power Party's presidential candidate.

On this day, Hong made this comment in response to a supporter on his online communication platform "Dream of Youth," after the supporter criticized a social media post by lawmaker Na Kyungwon, who was advocating for a unified candidacy between Lee and Kim.

The previous day, Na had posted on social media, "We must unify to stop the criminal 'dictator' Lee Jaemyung," and added, "I believe the reason candidate Lee Junseok is in politics is ultimately to protect the great Republic of Korea and its people. If we are divided in the face of the great threat that is Lee Jaemyung, the damage will fall squarely on the people," urging for unification.

At a press conference on the 22nd, candidate Lee Junseok stated, "In this presidential election, I, Lee Junseok, and the Reform New Party will see this through to the end and win in the name of Lee Junseok and the Reform New Party," drawing a clear line against calls for unification.

During the second televised debate held on the 23rd, Lee Jaemyung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate, and Kwon Youngguk, the Democratic Labor Party presidential candidate, pressed Lee Junseok on whether he would unify candidacies. However, Lee Junseok reiterated his negative stance on unification.
