On this day, Lee begins his campaign in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, and will visit Anyang, Siheung, and Ansan in succession. As recent polls show that the gap in support between Lee and Kim Moon Soo, the People Power Party candidate, has narrowed, there is a heightened sense of urgency. This move is interpreted as an effort to secure as much support as possible in Gyeonggi, the region with the largest number of voters.
According to a Realmeter poll commissioned by Energy Economy News and conducted on May 22 and 23 among 1,009 voters aged 18 and older nationwide, Lee received 46.6%, Kim received 37.6%, and Lee Junseok, the Reform New Party candidate, received 10.4%. The survey was conducted using a 100% wireless automated response method. The response rate was 8.3%. For more details, refer to the website of the National Election Survey Deliberation Commission.
Previously, before the official campaign period, Lee visited northern Gyeonggi on May 1 as the first stop of his "Listening Tour" to meet local voters. He then visited Seoul, Incheon, and other areas over three days from May 19 to 21.
