'A Feast of Light and Crafts'... Exhibition and Hands-on Event by Young Artisans at ACC

A venue for communicating and sharing the value of crafts with citizens through the works of local young artisans is being held in downtown Gwangju.

'2025 Craft Week,' which allows people to discover the joy of crafts in everyday life, runs until May 25. The event is hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, organized by the Korea Craft and Design Foundation, and planned by Studio Yeonjae.

This year's theme is 'Gongsaenggongnak (共生共樂),' which aims to create a space where tradition and modernity, regions and youth, artisans and citizens come together through crafts. During the event, a variety of programs?including exhibitions, hands-on experiences, markets, humanities lectures, and performances?will convey the value of crafts. Around 30 young local artisans are participating, presenting their works and stories.

Until May 25, collaborative exhibitions and programs are being held intensively at the Culture Information Center B2 of the National Asia Culture Center (ACC). Exhibitions include 'A Garden from the Earth, The Story After,' a collaboration between a ceramic artist and a florist; 'Feast of Light, Connected in Gwangju,' a ceramics exhibition by six young artists; and 'Gongsaenggongnak of Young Artisans,' a collaborative exhibition by artists from various fields.

Exhibitions and markets featuring local artisans continue at cultural and artistic spaces such as Chungjang 22 and the ACC. Citizens are expected to have opportunities to directly encounter and experience the diverse charms of crafts in their daily lives.

Kim Sol, head of Studio Yeonjae, said, "Through this event, people will be able to directly experience the creative and sophisticated works of young artisans," adding, "I hope many citizens will join the emotional world of crafts unfolding in Gwangju, the city of light."
