Jeollanam-do announced on the 23rd that it would lift all movement restrictions in quarantine areas following the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in the Muan region.
This decision was made because the first and second rounds of clinical and detailed inspections conducted on 178 cattle, pig, and goat farms within the 3km quarantine zone in Muan, which began on April 8, showed no abnormalities.
With the lifting of movement restrictions, Jeollanam-do, after consultation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, fully allowed the movement of live cattle and pigs between farms in the Muan area starting from the 23rd.
The livestock market in Muan, which had been temporarily closed, was approved to reopen from the 25th, provided that strengthened quarantine measures are implemented.
Jeollanam-do will conduct pre-inspections to ensure cleaning, washing, and disinfection are carried out at the livestock market, and until June 1, only cattle transactions will be permitted in Mokpo, Muan, and Shinan on a temporary basis. The province will further strengthen preventive measures by verifying whether traded cattle have been vaccinated against foot-and-mouth disease, checking for disinfection certificates for livestock vehicles at designated facilities, and requiring clinical examinations by veterinarians.
