KITA and Korea Employment Information Service Join Forces to Address Workforce Shortages in Export Companies

Signing of MOU and Establishment of Mid- to Long-Term Response Strategies
Joint Research to Secure Foreign Workforce

The Korea International Trade Association and the Korea Employment Information Service have joined forces to address the workforce shortage faced by export companies.

KITA announced on the 23rd that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Korea Employment Information Service at Trade Tower in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, to resolve the workforce shortage in the industrial sector.

This agreement was promoted with the intention of expanding collaboration with the Korea Employment Information Service, which is responsible for mid- to long-term workforce supply and demand forecasts, as the productive population declines due to low birth rates and an aging society, and as workforce shortages in the industrial sector intensify. The two organizations plan to conduct various joint studies, including the utilization of foreign workers based on the actual workforce demand of companies, and to establish mid- to long-term response strategies in preparation for demographic changes.

Through this agreement, the two organizations plan to jointly carry out a variety of initiatives, including: conducting surveys and joint research to secure foreign workers; providing and mutually analyzing data from the foreign workforce management system; and co-hosting seminars. In particular, by linking the quantitative workforce data analysis capabilities of the Korea Employment Information Service with the workforce demand of KITA member companies, the partnership is expected to enable a more precise diagnosis of workforce supply and demand issues in the industrial sector and to develop practical countermeasures.

Yoon Jinsik, Chairman of KITA, stated, "The upcoming demographic changes pose a challenge that threatens not only the entire industry but also the overall competitiveness of our country," and added, "Based on the expertise of both organizations, we will use this agreement as an opportunity to jointly establish a policy foundation and analytical system to secure a productive population."

Since last year, KITA has published a variety of reports on securing a productive population and, in April, conducted a survey on the utilization of foreign workers in overseas marketing in the trade industry, taking the lead in addressing workforce shortages for export companies.
