Edge Foundry Highlights Robot IR Sensors... Leading Policies for Localization

As the focus in the robotics industry shifts toward 'IR sensors (infrared sensors)' that determine cognitive capabilities, Edge Foundry announced on the 23rd that IR sensors have emerged at the forefront of robotics industry policy.

Edge Foundry Highlights Robot IR Sensors... Leading Policies for Localization

On the 22nd, Democratic Party lawmaker Ahn Dogeol visited Edge Foundry, located in Daedeok Innopolis in Daejeon, and held a policy meeting where he announced strategies for fostering the semiconductor industry outside the capital region as well as the top 10 policies for the robotics industry. This event was organized to assess the practical feasibility of the 'securing technological sovereignty' and 'large-scale regional industrial transformation' strategies emphasized by presidential candidate Lee Jaemyung, directly at the site.

Edge Foundry is a company that develops and supplies IR sensors and thermal imaging modules. It possesses core technologies that serve as the 'eyes of robots' in various fields, including autonomous vehicles, defense, smart homes, and healthcare.

Recently, the trend in the robotics industry has shifted from machines performing simple repetitive tasks to intelligent robots that can perceive their surroundings, make judgments, and move autonomously. Accordingly, while 'actuators' were once the key component, now sensors and AI have emerged as the core parts determining the competitiveness of robots.

Lawmaker Ahn Dogeol emphasized, "Companies like Edge Foundry are leading the future of the robotics industry beyond simply supplying components," adding, "Without the localization of sensor technology, there can be no industrial sovereignty." He continued, "We will spare no effort in providing comprehensive support so that technology-based companies outside the capital region can become self-reliant and grow."

On this day, Ahn announced the 'Top 10 Policies for the Robotics Industry,' which include expanding R&D tax credits, strengthening the robotics regulatory sandbox, and establishing regional testbeds. He also unveiled the 'Six Key Policies for Fostering the Semiconductor Industry Outside the Capital Region,' which consist of improving R&D systems, supporting facilities and infrastructure, retaining specialized talent, providing financial and tax support, expanding exports, and easing regulations, thereby initiating his vision for regionally based industrial innovation policies in earnest.

During the meeting, Edge Foundry explained how its technologies are being utilized in real industrial settings. The company also proposed practical policy improvements, including support for the localization of sensor technology, expansion of technology-based guarantees, and the development of exclusive sales channels for small and medium-sized enterprises.
