The Democratic Party of the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly stated that, on the 16th anniversary of the passing of President Roh Moo-hyun, it will stand together to continue the history of victories achieved by the people.
On May 23, the Democratic Party of the Assembly released a memorial statement, saying, "The 23rd of May has come around for the 16th time already. In that time, four presidents have come and gone, and two presidents were impeached, causing democracy to waver for a while. However, the people revived democracy once again."
The statement continued, "In the public squares, in villages, and in workplaces, the organized power of awakened citizens became the last bastion of democracy. Although the fight against forces of insurrection is not yet over, the Republic of Korea is overcoming the crises of martial law and insurrection and is taking steps forward toward the progress of history."
The statement also said, "Every year on the anniversary of his passing, the wave of remembrance for President Roh Moo-hyun surges in yellow, and this becomes the driving force that steadily moves us toward the Republic of Korea that President Roh dreamed of. Rather than extreme confrontation and political strife, we must ensure that the core values of democracy?dialogue, compromise, tolerance, and integration?are realized."
Furthermore, the party pledged, "Creating a 'world where people live' is the true way to overcome insurrection, to protect democracy, and to advance history," and promised, "We will surely defend the history of victories achieved by the people."
