Osan to Conduct Crackdown on Delinquent Vehicles on the 27th

License Plate Seizure for Vehicles with Over 300,000 Won in Unpaid Taxes and Daepocha

On May 23, the city of Osan, Gyeonggi Province, announced that it has designated May 27 as the "Crackdown Day for Delinquent Vehicles" and will focus on seizing license plates from vehicles with unpaid automobile taxes and related fines.

Vehicles subject to license plate seizure include: vehicles with unpaid automobile taxes for three or more periods; vehicles with unpaid fines of 300,000 won or more due to parking violations, inspection delays, or lack of mandatory insurance; and so-called "ghost vehicles" (Daepocha). Among these, vehicles with unpaid automobile taxes for three or more periods are subject to nationwide license plate seizure.

Seized license plates can be reclaimed after the payment of outstanding taxes, following verification of delinquency status and Daepocha registration by the Osan City Hall Collection Division.

In addition to this special crackdown, the city will continue routine enforcement regardless of day or night, weekdays or holidays. For vehicles whose owners do not reclaim their license plates within a certain period, the city has also announced strict measures such as delivery orders, compulsory towing, and public auction of the vehicles.

Lee Gwonjae, Mayor of Osan, stated, "The obligation to pay taxes is a shared promise that all citizens must uphold," adding, "We will strive to create a fair city where tax justice is realized."
