Gyeonggi Province and Hyundai Motor Namyang Research Center Recruit 150 Participants for Biodiversity Exploration

Gyeonggi Province is recruiting 150 participants on a first-come, first-served basis for the 'Gyeonggi Biodiversity Exploration,' which is being conducted jointly with Hyundai Motor Company Namyang Research Center.

The Gyeonggi Biodiversity Exploration is a citizen-participation ecological monitoring program in which participants directly investigate and record various biological species, such as plants, insects, and birds.

This year's exploration will take place at three ecologically valuable sites?Maehyang-ri Peace Ecological Park, Bibong Wetland Park, and Mubongsan Natural Recreation Forest?over five sessions from June to September. Participants will investigate biological species together with experts during each session.

Each session will have 30 participants, selected on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications can be submitted through the Gyeonggi Biodiversity Exploration mobile app 'LUCA.'

LUCA is an app developed and operated by Gyeonggi Province since July last year, which allows users to record and store information about the various species living in their surroundings.

The data collected during this exploration will also be recorded in the LUCA app and will be used in the future for building biodiversity information and establishing conservation policies.

Cha Seongsu, Director of the Climate, Environment and Energy Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, said, "I hope this exploration will serve as an opportunity for participants to directly experience the importance of the ecosystem and to realize the value of living in harmony with nature."
