Kim Juhyung, who is currently working on correcting his swing, started the tournament in the middle of the pack.


On May 22 (local time), at Colonial Country Club (par 70, 7,289 yards) in Fort Worth, Texas, USA, Kim exchanged two birdies and two bogeys in the first round of the PGA Tour Charles Schwab Challenge (total prize money: $9.5 million). He finished tied for 57th place with an even-par 70.

Kim picked up momentum with back-to-back birdies on holes 2 and 4, but later made two bogeys on holes 10 and 15. His fairway accuracy rate (57.14%) and greens in regulation rate (55.56%) remained around 50%, making it difficult for him to create birdie opportunities.


John Pak (USA) topped the leaderboard with one eagle and five birdies, finishing at 7-under-par 63. He is a rookie on the PGA Tour this year, has yet to win a title, and is ranked 266th in the world. As many as nine players, including Patrick Rodgers (USA), are chasing him, tied for second place at 4-under-par 66, three shots behind.


World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (USA), who is aiming for his first three consecutive tournament wins since turning professional, is looking to climb the leaderboard from a tie for 20th place at 2-under-par 68. Hideki Matsuyama (Japan) finished the first round tied for 35th at 1-under-par 69, while Kim Siwoo ended the day tied for 106th at 3-over-par 73.
