Establishing a Public-Private Cooperation System to Promote Recycling
Namyang Dairy Products to Utilize Recycled Paper for Packaging Boxes
On May 23, Namyang Dairy Products announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at Cheonan City Hall to establish a paper pack collection and recycling circulation system. A total of eight organizations and groups participated in this agreement, including Cheonan City, obligated recycling producers, paper manufacturers, and the recycling industry. The core objective is to build a public-private cooperation system to improve the collection rate of paper packs and promote recycling.

Paper packs used for milk, juice, and other beverages are made from high-quality natural pulp and have significant recycling value. However, the collection rate in South Korea is on the decline. According to the Ministry of Environment, the collection and recycling rate of paper packs dropped from 19.9% in 2019 to 13% in 2023.
Namyang Dairy Products plans to use the recycled paper made from collected paper packs for packaging boxes and other purposes. The Korea Packaging Material Recycling Cooperative and the Korea Resource Circulation Service Agency will be responsible for producing collection bins and operating the project, while Cheonan City will support collection by installing collection bins in 200,000 households in apartment complexes and at more than 30 administrative welfare centers within the city. The collected paper packs will be reborn as high-quality recycled paper through Hansol Paper.
A representative from Namyang Dairy Products stated, "We hope that public-private cooperation to promote paper pack recycling will lead to tangible results," adding, "We will continue to contribute to the transition to a circular economy society and strengthen ESG management."
