Seongdong-gu Holds "Empathy & Communication Day" for New Employees... Creating a Happy Organizational Culture!

Seongdong-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jung Wono) announced that on May 22, it held the "2025 Rest (Hyu) Program: A Day to Pause Together in Everyday Life" as part of its "Empathy & Communication Day" for newly appointed public officials.

This program was designed to help new employees in the process of adapting to the organization to temporarily step away from daily routines and build bonds and empathy together. It was conducted for 25 employees who were appointed in 2024 and have less than one year of service. District Mayor Jung Wono also attended the event as a mentor and senior in life, sharing concerns about work and organizational life and engaging in meaningful communication with the participants.

The event consisted of experiential programs centered on art and nature. The first activity was a visit to the art exhibition "Impressionism: From Monet to America" held at The Hyundai Seoul in Yeouido. The purpose was to awaken artistic sensibility through cultural and artistic experiences and to foster a flexible organizational culture. During the exhibition tour, audio docent commentary was provided to broaden participants' understanding of the artworks. During mealtime, a relaxed atmosphere was created to encourage open communication, strengthening mutual exchange and bonds among employees.

Lastly, participants visited the "2025 Seoul International Garden Expo" held in the area around Boramae Park. Seongdong-gu is focusing on the "5-Minute Everyday Garden City" initiative to create accessible green spaces in daily life. The event provided a special opportunity to share domestic and international garden design and urban greening cases, and to reflect on the district's policies and vision.

An employee participant, Lee OO, said, "It was great to take a break from work, empathize and communicate with colleagues, and recharge in daily life. As a new public official, there are many unfamiliar and challenging aspects, but sharing work experiences and building bonds with peers made it an especially valuable experience."

Seongdong-gu was the first among local governments to declare "Labor-Management Joint Happiness Management" in January 2022 in order to create a happy work environment based on communication and cooperation. This year, the district is pursuing "Happiness Management Season 4," expanding welfare and work environment improvement projects that all employees can feel, and working to establish a healthy and vibrant organizational culture where work and life are balanced.

District Mayor Jung Wono stated, "I hope this program has helped new employees adapt smoothly to the public sector culture, and we plan to actively incorporate the ideas gained through empathy and communication into future district administration. We will continue to operate customized education and various cultural experience programs to foster a healthy organizational culture."
