During the campaign for the 21st presidential election, a Changwon City Council member from the Democratic Party of Korea filed a complaint with the police, claiming to have been assaulted by a campaign worker from the People Power Party.
According to the Democratic Party on the 22nd, council member Jeong Sunwook became involved in an altercation with a People Power Party campaign worker at around 8:40 a.m. that day, while participating in a morning campaign event for commuters at the No. 3 Plaza intersection in front of a large supermarket in Jinhae-gu, Changwon.
Jeong claimed that he protested when the People Power Party campaign worker said, "The Democratic Party are spies." During this confrontation, the campaign worker allegedly struck Jeong's chest three times with his elbow and once with his arm, causing Jeong to fall to the ground.
He stated that the impact left him temporarily unconscious, and that he experienced severe dizziness on his way home, for which he received hospital treatment. He was reportedly diagnosed with injuries requiring two weeks of medical care.
Subsequently, Jeong submitted a complaint along with a medical certificate for his injuries to the Jinhae Police Station.
The police are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the incident based on CCTV footage from the area and witness statements.
The People Power Party is in the process of verifying the details regarding the alleged assault claimed by Jeong.
