The Gwangju Bank Labor Union announced on May 22 that it recently held the "50th Anniversary Ceremony of the Gwangju Bank Labor Union."

The ceremony, which took place at the Universiade Gymnasium of Gwangju Women's University, was not simply a commemoration of the labor union's founding. It was also an opportunity to reflect on the half-century history of Gwangju Bank and to revisit the footsteps the bank has taken together with the local community. In particular, in recognition of the 45th anniversary of the 5·18 Democratization Movement, the union held a memorial event with its members to honor the history and spirit of May, reaffirming the values of democracy and the significance of community solidarity.

The event was attended by key figures, including Park Hongbae, a Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker and former chairman of the National Financial Industry Labor Union; Min Hyungbae, a Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker; Kim Dongmyeong, chairman of the Federation of Korean Trade Unions; and Kim Hyungseon, chairman of the National Financial Industry Labor Union.

Chairman Park Man stated, "The spirit of the 5·18 Democratization Movement, achieved through the sacrifices of May, has become a precious foundation for our defense of liberal democracy. Going forward, Gwangju Bank will continue to fulfill its essential role as the region's representative bank by promoting a virtuous cycle in the local economy and leading sustainable growth."
