"Mr. President, Please Read This Book"... YES24 Launches National Book Recommendation Campaign

Books Recommended to the 21st President
Submissions Accepted Until June 15

YES24, a cultural content platform, announced on May 22 that it is hosting a special event titled "Books Recommended to the 21st President," in which members are invited to directly recommend books they wish the new president would read ahead of the 21st presidential election.

"Mr. President, Please Read This Book"... YES24 Launches National Book Recommendation Campaign

This special event was organized in anticipation of the 21st presidential election on June 3, with the hope that the new president will communicate and connect with the people through books. The book recommendation period runs until June 15. YES24 will award 500 YES points to 1,000 members who introduce a book they wish to recommend in the comments section.

As of May 20, the most recommended book by YES24 members was "How Democracies Die," a major work in the field of socio-politics by a Harvard University political science professor. This book, which explores how to recognize early warning signs of crises in modern democracies and seek solutions based on examples from around the world, was originally published in 2018 but has seen a resurgence in popularity since December of last year.

Other frequently recommended books include: ▲"The Tyranny of Merit" ("I hope the president will understand social divisions and help create a truly fair society"), ▲"The Art of War: All Strategies and Tactics of the World" ("I hope the president learns leadership from the classics and helps build a unified, healthy Korea"), ▲"Survival of the Friendliest" ("Efforts are needed to restore our society and communities in an atmosphere of sharp division and disintegration"), and ▲"Invisible Workers" ("I hope a labor system will be established that allows people to breathe easier in an era of longevity"). These and other books from various fields have been recommended by readers along with their comments.

Additionally, YES24 is introducing book recommendations from publishing industry professionals, who are closest to books, as part of this event. Through the event page, readers can explore 22 titles in the fields of natural science, humanities, history, and social politics, including "The President's Reading" and "Enough Is Enough."

Cho Sunyoung, Head of the Book Business Division at YES24, stated, "We prepared this special event for readers who want to express their voices to the next president through books ahead of the upcoming election," and added, "We hope that books directly recommended by readers will help convey the hopes that are truly needed in our society through the president's pledges, and that this will foster greater communication with the public."
