Iksan City in North Jeolla Province is expanding the installation of closed-circuit (CC) TV cameras and actively introducing advanced systems to prevent crime and enhance citizen safety.

According to the city on May 22, a total of 170 new closed-circuit (CC) TV cameras were installed in the first half of this year, including 49 for the control center and 121 for village crime prevention. In addition, a total of 553 outdated closed-circuit (CC) TV cameras were replaced or repaired.

The city plans to continue expanding closed-circuit (CC) TV coverage in the second half of the year and, in particular, to add an intelligent selective monitoring system to approximately 600 cameras. This is expected to enable proactive incident response and more efficient monitoring.

The intelligent selective monitoring system analyzes closed-circuit (CC) TV footage using artificial intelligence (AI)-based deep learning technology. It not only identifies people and vehicles in the footage but also quickly detects abnormal behaviors such as loitering, intrusion, violence, and falls, thereby contributing to strengthening the city's safety network.

Mayor Jung Heon-yul said, "Crime prevention CCTV is an important system that can prevent various crimes, incidents, and accidents," and added, "We will do our best to ensure that citizens can live more safely by continuously expanding the system and establishing state-of-the-art intelligent monitoring systems."

Meanwhile, the city currently operates approximately 3,400 closed-circuit (CC) TV cameras for the control center and about 3,300 closed-circuit (CC) TV cameras for village crime prevention. The intelligent selective monitoring system is applied to 140 cameras.
