The Daejeon Fire Department announced that it will conduct joint public-private safety inspections of large and aging hazardous material facilities as part of the "2025 Korea National Safety Transformation Intensive Safety Inspection" campaign, which runs until June 13, 2025.
This inspection will target 18 large and aging hazardous material facilities that store or handle hazardous materials in quantities exceeding 3,000 times the designated amount.
The main inspection items include: ▲ whether the structural and equipment standards of manufacturing sites and similar facilities are being observed; ▲ the working conditions of hazardous materials safety managers; ▲ the management of storage and handling at manufacturing sites and similar facilities; and ▲ the establishment of response systems for hazardous material accidents.
Through this inspection, the department aims to identify and eliminate potential risk factors in aging facilities at an early stage, and to further strengthen the safety management system to prevent large-scale accidents.
An Jungmi, head of the Prevention and Safety Division at the Daejeon Fire Department, stated, "A large-scale hazardous material accident can result in significant loss of life and property in a single moment of carelessness. We will work to make Daejeon safer through thorough pre-inspections and by strengthening the autonomous safety management capabilities of those responsible."
