118 Violations Detected in Just Two Hours
The Gwangju Police Agency and the Gwangju Autonomous Police Committee announced on May 22 that they conducted a joint inspection targeting cargo trucks in the Pyeongdong Industrial Complex area of Gwangsan-gu on the afternoon of May 21.
This inspection was carried out because, although the total number of traffic accidents has been decreasing over the past three years, the proportion of serious injuries and fatalities caused by cargo trucks remains high. According to recent statistics, cargo truck accidents account for 10% of all traffic accidents, 11% of serious injury accidents, and 13.9% of fatal accidents.
The inspection involved 27 personnel from six agencies, including the Gwangju Police Agency, Gwangsan Police Station, Gwangju City Hall, Gwangsan District Office, General Construction Headquarters, and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority. They checked for violations of the Road Act, Road Traffic Act, Motor Vehicle Management Act, and Freight Motor Vehicle Transportation Business Act.
As a result of the inspection, a total of 118 violations were detected over approximately two hours. These included 7 cases of safety standard violations such as overloading, 5 cases of illegal structural modification or tuning, 13 cases of violations of the Freight Motor Vehicle Transportation Business Act, and 93 cases of Road Traffic Act violations such as failure to wear seat belts.
Alongside the inspection, the police also conducted promotional activities on developing the habit of wearing seat belts, the correct use of seat belts in commercial vehicles, and safe driving practices to prevent cargo truck accidents. They also distributed promotional items such as wet wipes.
A police official stated, "We will continue joint inspections to raise awareness about illegal activities involving cargo trucks and to ensure traffic safety."
