A group of individuals who allegedly attempted to extort money by claiming that they were pregnant with the child of Son Heungmin (33, Tottenham Hotspur), captain of the national football team, has been handed over to the prosecution.
The Gangnam Police Station in Seoul announced on the morning of May 22 that Yang, a woman in her 20s, and Yong, a man in his 40s, were transferred to the prosecution in custody at around 8 a.m. on charges of blackmail and attempted blackmail, respectively.
According to the police, in June of last year, Yang allegedly threatened Son by saying she would reveal that she was pregnant with his child and demanded money. It is reported that Yang sent Son an ultrasound image of a fetus and extorted approximately 300 million won from him.
Yong, who is an acquaintance of Yang, is also accused of approaching Son’s side in March of this year and attempting to extort 70 million won.
The police began their investigation after receiving a complaint from Son’s side on May 7, stating that the suspects had falsely claimed pregnancy to extort money. The police arrested the suspects on May 14 and requested arrest warrants the following day. The Seoul Central District Court issued the warrants, citing concerns about destruction of evidence and risk of flight.
