Convenience store chain Emart24 and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety have signed a business agreement to promote mutual development in regions experiencing population decline.

On May 21, Emart24 announced that it had signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and local governments (Sancheong County and Hadong County) at the large conference room of Sancheong County Office in Sancheong County, Gyeongsangnam-do.

Attending the agreement ceremony were Eun Yong Choi, Executive Director of Emart24; Min Jae Kim, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety; Seunghwa Lee, Mayor of Sancheong County; Samhee Lee, Deputy Mayor of Hadong County, as well as about 20 other officials.

Through this MOU, Emart24 has agreed to: develop differentiated products using local specialties from Sancheong County and Hadong County; promote local specialties and the regions themselves through three-party cooperation; and collaborate on the use of local symbols and boosting tourism in Sancheong County and Hadong County.

Sancheong County and Hadong County in Gyeongsangnam-do are designated by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety as regions experiencing population decline. Emart24 and the Ministry selected these areas as targets for their mutual growth project to help revitalize the local communities. In particular, they expect that this initiative will provide small but meaningful support for the economic recovery of Sancheong and Hadong Counties, which have recently suffered significant damage from large-scale wildfires.

Emart24 plans to launch convenience store products next month using local specialties such as 'dried persimmons' and 'chives' from Sancheong County and 'tomatoes' from Hadong County. Each product package will feature a QR code that introduces local tourist attractions, helping to promote the respective regions.

Going forward, Emart24 plans to expand its mutual growth activities with other regions, starting with its collaboration with Sancheong County and Hadong County. Eun Yong Choi, Executive Director in charge of Merchandising at Emart24, said, "Through this agreement, we will introduce convenience store products utilizing local specialties, which will help boost agricultural consumption and provide an opportunity to promote these regions to our customers."
