Kim Daenam, Former Yongsan Official, Withdraws from Democratic Party After One Day... Declares Support for Kim Moonsoo

Kim Expresses Disappointment at Cynical Attitude Toward National Unity Within Democratic Party

Kim Daenam, former presidential office administrator, announced on the 22nd that he would join the Central Election Campaign Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea, but withdrew this decision in less than a day and declared his support for Kim Moonsoo, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party.

On this day, Kim released a statement saying, "After deep consideration, I officially withdraw my decision to participate in the Democratic Party's Central Election Campaign Committee." He added, "I want to make it clear that, in the face of the unfortunate reality of a Korea divided by political camps, I hope that power will be gathered around a leader who can open an era of national unity and fully uphold the values of liberal democracy." He explained his reason for withdrawing from the Democratic Party's campaign committee by saying, "I felt deep disappointment at the factional and cynical attitude toward national unity shown by some within the Democratic Party."

He continued, "While I understand the sincerity of those who suggested I join the Democratic Party's campaign committee, I believe now is the time for me to return to my original place." He added, "I will quietly return to my daily life, supporting the election of candidate Kim Moonsoo, who can correct the difficult and challenging lives of the people and restore the values of liberal democracy."

Kim Daenam, Former Yongsan Official, Withdraws from Democratic Party After One Day... Declares Support for Kim Moonsoo

Kim, who was the first former official from the Yoon Sukyeol administration's presidential office to join the Democratic Party, had recently expressed disappointment over former President Yoon's stance on alleged election fraud and the controversy surrounding the replacement of the People Power Party's presidential candidate. He had been appointed as deputy head of the Democratic Party's campaign committee's National Participation Headquarters.

In July of last year, Kim became a controversial figure ahead of the People Power Party's 4th National Convention due to allegations that he was involved in orchestrating attacks against former party leader Han Donghoon, who was a candidate for party leader at the time. In a phone call with the YouTube channel "Voice of Seoul," he said, "Kim Keonhee is so distressed because of candidate Han that she is contemplating suicide. If we plan this well and take down candidate Han this time, she will be pleased."

Additionally, after leaving the presidential office, Kim was appointed as a standing auditor at SGI Seoul Guarantee Insurance, but resigned amid controversy over being appointed as a so-called 'parachute' figure.
