The Hallyu Convergence Institute at Dongguk University will hold its first colloquium on May 27 in the Future Convergence Seminar Room at Hyehwa Hall on campus, under the theme "Hallyu Meets Technology."
This colloquium has been organized to assess the current state of Hallyu and to create new business models by integrating cutting-edge technology with Hallyu content.
At the event, Mark A. Peterson, Professor Emeritus at Brigham Young University in the United States and a Korean studies scholar, will deliver the keynote speech titled "Pungnyu and Hallyu in Korea." Professor Peterson holds a Ph.D. in East Asian Languages and Civilizations from Harvard University. He is expected to engage in a discourse on Korean sentiment in search of new approaches to Hallyu.
This will be followed by a lecture on "The Future of Hallyu Tech" by Cho Seonghae, Director at Galaxy Corporation, and a lecture on "The Entertainment Industry and Immersive Tech" by Jang Gwangho, CEO of CNAI. In addition, idol rapper Bobby will give a presentation on "Hallyu and Fandom Technology," and Han Junghoon, CEO of K-Entertech Hub, will speak on "Hallyu Entertech Policy and Industry." Professors Jung Hojae, Choi Wonjae, Cho Youngshin, and Oh Sinhwan of Dongguk University will then engage in a lively discussion.
Jung Gilhwa, Director of the Hallyu Convergence Institute, stated, "The sustainability of Hallyu and its industrial prospects are key issues in Hallyu studies," adding, "This event will be a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the development of Hallyu, and to hear firsthand insights from leaders at the forefront of the content industry, including Entertech CEOs and an active idol rapper, as we consider new approaches to Hallyu."
Meanwhile, since its establishment in September last year, the Hallyu Convergence Institute has been actively conducting Hallyu research projects, including the publication of a Hallyu series, undergraduate Hallyu courses, and joint projects with overseas universities.
