On May 21, Gokseong County (Governor Cho Sangrae) announced that the "2025 Gokseong Train Village Traditional Market Chikchikpokpok Night Market," held at the Gokseong Train Village Traditional Market from May 16 to 18, concluded successfully, receiving positive reviews from both tourists and local residents.
This night market, hosted by the Gokseong Train Village Traditional Market Merchants' Association and organized by Gokseong County, was held in conjunction with the 15th Gokseong World Rose Festival. During the event, a large number of tourists visited the night market, experiencing the charm of the traditional market and expanding their consumption routes to businesses throughout Gokseong-eup. The event served as an effective model for revitalizing the local economy in all directions.
In particular, Korea East-West Power Co., Ltd. added significance to the event by conducting a promotion linking the traditional market with local businesses in Gokseong-eup to boost the local economy. The market stage was energized by a variety of cultural performances, including a performance by the Jeollanam-do Market Troupe, an EDM party for younger visitors, the 3·8 Merchants' Singing Contest where market vendors showcased their talents, and an on-site karaoke event for tourists.
At the food booths, a wide variety of dishes such as local specialties, snacks, pancakes, and fusion foods prepared directly by the merchants were sold at affordable prices, gaining great popularity. Various hands-on programs, including coffee clay and pipe cleaner doll making, were also offered.
In addition, the Yutnori competition, featuring representatives from 11 towns and villages in Gokseong, provided an opportunity for residents to form teams by town, throw yut sticks, cheer each other on, and strengthen community bonds.
Won Youngsoo, president of the Gokseong Train Village Traditional Market Merchants' Association, stated, "This night market is a festival created and nurtured by our merchants themselves," adding, "We will continue to enhance the competitiveness of the traditional market through various events in the future."
Governor Cho Sangrae commented, "The Chikchikpokpok Night Market is a good example of how the traditional market, festivals, and local businesses in the town center can come together to invigorate the local economy," and added, "I hope that through today's night market, the Gokseong Train Village Traditional Market will continue to grow as a culture and tourism-oriented market."
