Industry Agrees to Improve System for Rentals and Returns Only at Designated Locations

Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province has joined hands with 13 private organizations to create a safe environment for the use of personal mobility devices (PM), such as electric scooters and electric bicycles.

On May 21, Hwaseong City signed a business agreement in the situation room of City Hall, with Mayor Jung Myunggeun, Kim Insook, Superintendent of Hwaseong Osan Office of Education, Lee Jaehong, Chief of Hwaseong Western Police Station, Kim Jongguk, Head of Security and Transportation at Hwaseong Dongtan Police Station, and representatives from nine personal mobility rental service companies in attendance, to establish a safe environment for PM use in the region.
According to the agreement, the city will be responsible for building PM infrastructure and conducting education and promotional activities for citizens. Hwaseong Western and Dongtan Police Stations will be in charge of guiding and cracking down on traffic law violations. The Office of Education will cooperate in fostering a safety culture and providing education focused on students.
In particular, PM rental companies have agreed to improve their systems so that electric scooters and electric bicycles can only be rented and returned at designated locations.
The participating organizations will hold regular meetings to maintain practical cooperation and respond organically to institutional and technological improvements as needed.
Mayor Jung stated, "This agreement is a meaningful occasion where each organization and company has decided to work together to create a safe environment for PM use," and added, "Based on public-private cooperation, we will move forward as a city that leads a culture of safe PM use."
