Gwangju Bank announced on May 21 that it will operate a "Heat Relief Shelter" at all of its branches in the Gwangju, Jeonnam, and metropolitan areas until September 30 to ensure a safe and healthy summer.
As the number of extremely hot days increases each year due to climate change, Gwangju Bank has consistently operated the Heat Relief Shelter annually to fulfill its social responsibility as a leading regional financial institution. In particular, since last year, the bank has started operating the shelter about one month earlier than usual, reflecting the trend of heat waves beginning earlier than in previous years.
The Gwangju Bank Heat Relief Shelter is open to everyone during banking hours (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.), providing a space where people can cool off and take a short break. The shelter is equipped with air conditioning and also provides cooling fans to help citizens stay comfortable during the summer.
Park Seongsuk, Head of Sales Planning at Gwangju Bank, said, "Heat waves are more than just an inconvenience?they can threaten the health and lives of citizens. We will continue to expand the operation of the Heat Relief Shelter so that local residents can spend the summer safely and in good health."
Meanwhile, the Gwangju Bank Heat Relief Shelter, first introduced in 2018 as the first of its kind among banks, has been operated every year since then. It is open to everyone regardless of whether they are a customer, earning praise from customers and local residents alike and serving as a community gathering place.
