Discovering Signature Restaurants...
"Revitalizing Gastronomic Tourism"
Iksan City in North Jeolla Province will be accepting public applications for the "2025 Iksan Matjip" (Iksan's Best Restaurants 2025) until June 18, 2025, in an effort to preserve the region's unique food culture and develop it as a tourism resource.
According to the city on May 21, this recruitment aims to discover representative restaurants that can promote the local flavors and revitalize gastronomic tourism.
Eligible applicants are general restaurants located in Iksan that have been in operation for at least one year after registering their business. The restaurants must be able to serve signature dishes made with Iksan’s unique agricultural and specialty products.
Restaurants wishing to participate should fill out the designated application form and submit it to the Hygiene Division. Detailed information is available on the announcement board of the Iksan City website.
The city will conduct a document review and an on-site evaluation organized by the "Iksan City Gastronomy Industry Development and Promotion Committee" for the restaurants that apply. The main evaluation criteria include ▲ utilization of local ingredients ▲ service quality ▲ hygiene standards ▲ popularity, among others.
In particular, to enhance the fairness of the evaluation, an online survey targeting citizens will also be conducted. By selecting the best restaurants through careful evaluation by both citizens and experts, the city expects to strengthen the competitiveness and brand value of Iksan’s food culture and contribute to the revitalization of the local economy.
Selected restaurants will receive a variety of benefits, including ▲ expert consulting and culinary education ▲ promotional material production and provision of hygiene supplies ▲ support for facility and environmental improvements ▲ additional accumulation of "Dairo-um Points" ▲ a sign designating them as a representative restaurant, among others.
The city plans to hold a proclamation ceremony and tasting event for the selected restaurants at the "NS Food Festa 2025 in Iksan," scheduled for September 26, 2025, to promote the excellence of Iksan’s cuisine and restaurants nationwide.
Chae Suhun, head of the Hygiene Division, stated, "Through the Iksan Matjip project, which is being implemented for the first time this year, we plan to systematically develop the region’s distinctive cuisine and establish Iksan as a gastronomic city that attracts more tourists. We hope that many restaurants will participate in the contest to further enhance the competitiveness of Iksan’s food culture together."
