'East Asian Cultural Cities' is an international cultural exchange and cooperation program that was launched in 2014 by South Korea, China, and Japan to promote mutual respect and understanding through cultural exchange. This year, Anseong City, Huzhou City in China, the Macao Special Administrative Region, and Kamakura City in Japan have been selected as East Asian Cultural Cities and are hosting a variety of cultural exchange events.
The opening ceremony in Kamakura City was attended by key officials from the four cities, including Anseong Mayor Kim Bora. At the ceremony, the 'Namsadang Baudeogi Pungmuldan,' representing Anseong City, performed a Namsadangnori show.
The city announced its plan to use this visit as an opportunity to further promote not only cultural and artistic exchanges but also private-sector exchanges with Kamakura City. Mayor Kim stated, "I hope that continued cultural exchange with Kamakura City will further deepen mutual understanding and cooperation."
Meanwhile, the city will host the 'Korea-China-Japan Food Culture Festival - Connecting with Noodles, Uniting with Taste' at Anseong Matchum Land for two days on June 7 and 8 as part of the East Asian Cultural Cities project. The event will feature a variety of food-related experiential programs, including a family cooking competition, a celebrity chef food show, a Tangbyeonghoe (a ritual wishing for children's health and longevity), and a Giroyeon (a banquet honoring the virtues of elders).
