Exclusive immigration inspection lanes for Korean nationals will be operated at Tokyo Haneda Airport (Terminal 3) and Fukuoka Airport in Japan. In addition, exclusive immigration lanes for Japanese visitors to Korea will be set up at Gimpo and Gimhae airports in Korea.
On May 21, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Justice announced that these exclusive immigration lanes will be operated for nationals of both countries who meet certain requirements, in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan. Eligible individuals are short-term visitors, such as tourists, who have visited the other country at least once within the past year as of their entry date. Travelers departing from their home country and arriving at Tokyo Haneda Airport (Terminal 3) or Fukuoka Airport between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. can use the exclusive lanes. Japanese nationals can use the exclusive lane when entering Korea through Gimpo Airport via Korean Air (KE), Asiana Airlines (OZ), Japan Airlines (JL), or All Nippon Airways (NH), or through Gimhae Airport via any airline. These exclusive immigration lanes between Korea and Japan will be operated for one month.
Japanese nationals wishing to use the exclusive immigration lane must complete an electronic entry declaration before entering Korea. They must obtain or screenshot an electronic entry declaration form indicating eligibility for the exclusive lane from the designated website and present it to airport staff upon arrival.
Korean nationals wishing to visit Japan must complete pre-registration on the 'Visit Japan Web' before entering Japan, and screenshot the QR code page indicating eligibility for the exclusive immigration lane to present to airport staff upon arrival.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, "Travelers using the exclusive immigration lanes will undergo immigration inspection at a dedicated lane upon arrival in the other country, allowing for faster and smoother entry." The ministry also assessed that "the operation of these exclusive lanes, aimed at improving entry and exit convenience, will serve as an opportunity to further promote people-to-people exchanges between Korea and Japan in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations."
