National Youth Dance Company to Be Established in Pyeongtaek

On May 21, the city of Pyeongtaek announced that it had been selected as the final location for the establishment of a new National Youth Arts Company in a review organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

This selection is part of a nationwide project led by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to establish National Youth Arts Companies. In the review, the ministry selected four locations for the establishment of National Youth Arts Companies: Pyeongtaek, Sejong, Busan, and Wonju in Gangwon Province.

By city, the designations are as follows: National Youth Dance Company in Pyeongtaek, National Youth Traditional Performing Arts Company in Busan, National Symphony Concert Orchestra in Sejong, and National Youth Theater Company in Wonju.

The National Youth Arts Company will hire young artists under the age of 39 on a one-year basis, providing them with stage experience and opportunities for artistic activities. The dance company to be established in Pyeongtaek will be operated entirely with national funding and will work in partnership with local universities to discover and nurture young artists. It will also hold four to five regional and nationwide touring performances annually.

Pyeongtaek Mayor Jung Jangsun stated, "With the establishment of the National Youth Dance Company, we expect active collaboration with local arts organizations," adding, "We will strengthen the foundation of dance culture in Pyeongtaek and develop it into a key hub for national culture and the arts."
